Vacation destination: English countryside

When Vacationing in England you should not miss the North East spreading over 100 miles North from Teesside to the Border Country. It is full of wonderful uncluttered Beaches, the best anywhere in England. Travelling north from Middlesborough you will pass through some of the most industrialised areas of the Country, not to mention the unique Transporter Bridge across the Tees, north through Stockton where the Tyne and Sydney Harbour Bridges were designed and built. Leaving the Industrial area you will come to some wonderfully unspoilt areas In the Country. Durham is known as the Land of the Prince Bishops and is epitomised by its Cathedral which stands overlooking the City and the beautiful River Wear winding its way through the Centre, eventually reaching the Sea at Sunderland, once famous for its Ships, Glass Making and Engineering,it has very little Industry left. What it does have is,its Beaches, and Museums. Traveling North from Sunderland it is mostly Urban to South Shields, and the mouth of the best known river in the North, the Tyne. This once mighty River, again famous for its ships has become a leisure area. From the old,North Shields Fish Quay, where Fish is still landed, and cam be bought direct from the Boats. The Tyne is best crossed by the Ferry from South to North Shields.

Traveling East the changes in the Tyne are clear to be seen. The new ferry terminal with its daily sailing to Amsterdam, on superb ships with every facility, plus three times weekly to Norway in the Summer, and a growing number of Cruise Ships. The Capital, Newcastle is recognised to be one of the top Leisure Cities in the country. With three Theatres two Multiplexes, and uncountable Bars Restaurants and Clubs. Just to the East of Newcastle is Wallsend, the start of the world famous Hadrians Wall which ran to Solway. This could be a subject all on its own, much of it can still be walked.

To the North is the most unspoiled and rugged Countryside in England. Miles of unspolit Beaches, high cliffs, hidden little Harbours, Castles ruined and still inhabited. The best known is Alnwick Castle, the setting used for much of the Harry

Potter Films. Warkworth Castle is a ruin but so impressive when seen from Craster,

home of the best Kippers in the World. Then there are the Farne Islands, a Bird sanctuary reached by small Boats from Seahouses, reputedle the home of the best Fish

an Chips. On northward to Holy Island the legendary home of the Venerable Bede who brought Christianity to Northern England. Holy Island still has a Monastery, where the monks distill Mead, a Honey Liqueur. It can still only be reached by the ancient Causeway, which is only open when the Tides are low. Miss it and you could be stuck, but at least it a superb Pub to while away the Hours.

Lastly, North to Berwick on Tweed, where England and Scotland meet, where the the Trains still cross on the world famous Border Bridge, designed and built in Newcastle, because as well as everything else it was the Birthplace of the Railway.
