Togo is a West African wonderland, dotted with white-sand beaches, rolling savanna and flourishing forests. The Grand Market covers three floors and sells everything from fresh fruit and veg to traditional medicine. Elsewhere, you’ll find the Nana Benz clothes market and the slightly more niche voodoo market. Togo’s National Museum is located in the Palais du Congrés complex and features collections of musical instruments, jewellery and many other artefacts showcasing local arts and heritage. The pristine shores of Coco Beach are just 4 km from the city and features a fresh seafood restaurant. Head north from the capital and you’ll discover some of the country’s most scenic hiking spots. The hilly surroundings of Kpalimé, Kara and the Tamberma Valley are also top spots for picturesque treks. For the best chance of seeing the likes of monkeys, antelope and elephants, venture into the national parks of Fazao and Keran. Lomé offers the widest range of accommodation options, from basic hotels to more upmarket options. Outside of the capital, choices tend to include smaller hotels and guesthouses.
