Everybody should visit Cairns... the locals are super friendly, the reef is incredible - you must snorkel or dive, and the rainforest is mind-blowing, everybody should take the gondola... it was a highlight of our trip. The restaurants are really good value and the food is absolutely delicious. Great local coffee too! It's fair to say we will be back!

10 I like Cairns. I like the weather and the vibe.
I like Cairns. I like the weather and the vibe. There is always people around from early morning to late at night. I like the esplanade and the lagoon is fantastic. Rusty's market is a good place to visit as is Hemmingway's. A visit to the Botanic gardens is well worth it as well as the Tanks especially for a concert. The CPAC is also great for concerts. I walked to a lot of places and also caught buses.

4 I thought Cairns was very run down.
I thought Cairns was very run down. The tourist activities expensive rushed and tacky. Our jet boat guy nearly crashed it accidentally and hurt everyone on the boat. We didn’t see one turtle on Green Island. The reef is in a terrible state

Cairns is an awesome place to visit, plenty of things to do, lots of lovely beaches along the coast and central for visiting the tableland or further up the coast to Port Douglas or the Daintree. It’s a shame that most of the accomodation is so expensive.

My single biggest recommendation for restauranteurs is C'est Bon. It's a French Restaurant in Cairns CBD, close to everything. It's easily my most favourite restaurant in Australia. It's unpretentious yet classy. The food is excellent. The staff very friendly and professional. Parking right out the front. We like to sit on the side verandah next to the shopping alley, just like you would if you were in Paris. Highly recommended.
